Alpha Kappa Psi is Washington University in St. Louis’s oldest and largest co-ed professional fraternity. The Alpha Lambda chapter was founded in 1923, and has since developed a unique and diverse community on campus as well as an extensive alumni network that members look to for professional advice. Our fraternity is not just limited to those in Olin Business School, so while our chapter includes many business students, we also have strong voices from throughout the many disciplines at Washington University. These varying perspectives help us come together as a chapter to promote community service and leadership in business in addition to finding success in finding enriching internship and postgraduate opportunities.
As a community, we have over 227 active chapters worldwide, and 298,000 lifetime members. Although an incredibly diverse group, we all share the bonds of brotherhood in addition to a desire to excel both professionally in business, and personally as integritous individuals. Alpha Kappa Psi, as an organization, exists to push people to become the best version of themselves, in addition to providing the necessary support for them to do so. Being part of this organization is a rich gift which our members benefit from for life.
Alpha Kappa Psi has five, lifetime core values which that it expects its members to adhere to: brotherhood, knowledge, integrity, unity, and service. We believe that heeding these values leads to the development of principled business leaders.
OUR VALUES
Brotherhood
While trust, respect, cooperation, companionship and aid to all brothers is the expected norm, brotherhood extends beyond just that. Our members, from the day they become brothers, foster a great love of the fraternity and a fondness for brother members. While brotherhood manifests itself in a multitude of ways, at its center is a sense of duty and respect for both the fraternity and individual members, combined with friendship. Members are anchored by the need to do what is in the best interest of the fraternity as a whole.
Unity
Alpha Kappa Psi values the sharing of time, talent and treasure with society and with our fraternity. Much is expected of those to whom much is given. Business professionals who seek to improve the communities in which they do business improve lives and develop goodwill. Our members actively give back to their communities through volunteer activities and monetary support.
Integrity
Members of Alpha Kappa Psi are expected that all their actions, whether in business or in life, be guided by honesty, ethics and fairness. While the business world offers many opportunities for success and advancement, it also requires us to make decisions about how we succeed. Our members understand the importance of making decisions and conducting business in a way that considers both legality and ethics. Our members serve as leaders through their consistently fair and ethical conduct.
Service
A common understanding of our vision and values is that it transcends chapter, generation, and profession and is utilized to anticipate and shape the future. As college chapters serve as living laboratories for classroom concepts and professional conduct, lessons learned in the fraternity prepare members for success in the business world. Recognizing the value and importance of our Fraternity, our members are united in their passion to build a legacy for the future, and support the fraternity through volunteer leadership and monetary gifts.
Knowledge
Within Alpha Kappa Psi, education and experience is emphasized and shared. Our fraternity is an amazing resource which can be leveraged to help you succeed professionally and personally. College is merely the beginning of business education, and our members share their knowledge and experiences openly with the people they work with, regardless of rank or position. As our members seek out opportunities to share their real-world experience with brother members, they enhance their lifelong learning.
